Building your own deer blind is an exciting experience that lets you customize your blind to your needs.

With E-Z Tower, you can add stability and strength to your deer stand to support all your hunting endeavors.

We’ll walk you through how to install your E-Z Tower brackets on a custom-built or manufactured deer blind.

How to Build a Blind With E-Z Tower Brackets

  1. Establish Dimensions & Construct Base Frame
Once you decide on your blind’s dimensions, construct the base frame using 2x dimensional lumber. Frame the outer perimeter and attach floor joists to carry the load, securing it with wood screws or framing nails.
Cover the floor frame with ⅝” or ¾” plywood and secure to the frame.

  2. Attach E-Z Tower Brackets
Flip the completed floor frame upside down to attach the E-Z Tower brackets. Place a bracket on each corner and mark the installation location on your frame through the holes on the brackets.
Drill each hole for ½” hex bolts. Secure each bracket to the corners using 4½” x 2½” hex bolts, flat washers, lock washers, and hex nuts. Fasten securely to prevent rocking.

  3. Insert Wooden Posts
Insert 4”x4” or 6”x6” treated wooden posts of your desired height into each E-Z Tower bracket leg socket. Check that each post is seated completely into each leg socket.
Mark the installation location on the post through the leg holes on each bracket. Drill ¼” pilot holes into the posts and secure them to the brackets with ⅜” x 1½” lag screws and flat washers.

  4. Brace the Posts
Using 1x or 2x dimensional lumber, brace each side of the tower legs in an “X” pattern. You can do this by crossing the brace boards and securing them to the legs with wood screws or lag screws.
Brace boards can be secured to the legs and then trimmed flush with the edge of each leg.
Proper bracing is essential for the stability of the wooden posts. It’s recommended to have stacked X-bracing or 2 sets of X-bracing for towers over 12’.

  5. Stand Base Frame Up
Turn your base frame with tower assembly back over onto its feet.
Typically, you can turn it over by hand. However, if you’re building a tall tower, you may need a mechanical device, at your discretion. Use caution!

  6. Frame the Walls
Frame each wall of your blind on the ground. Be mindful of the windows, doors, and roof. Raise, place, and secure the walls’ bottom plate to the floor frame with wood screws.

  7. Add Temporary Braces
After placing and securing the front wall, attach a temporary brace from the wall’s edge to the floor frame edge, which will hold the wall plum and level. Follow the same procedure for the back wall. Remove bracing after setting end walls.

  8. Add End Walls
Place end walls and secure them to the floor frame, front walls, and back walls with wood screws. Raise and place the roof section by securing it to each wall’s top plate.

  9. Add Final Touches & Enjoy
Your blind and tower are now complete. Add further functionality by building a simple ladder, installing windows, trimming the exterior openings and corners, and customizing the interior to your needs.
Now it’s time to get in and hunt!
